How FlightTrove uses ADSB.lol historical data for T+24 spotting forecasts and keeps the ODbL boundary explicit.
Last updated 8 October 2026
FlightTrove uses ADSB.lol daily historical aircraft archives as evidence for regional T+24 spotting forecasts. The source archives are made available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.
We conservatively treat our persistent ADSB.lol-derived historical evidence layer as an ODbL Derivative Database. User-facing T+24 forecasts are Produced Works generated from that evidence layer.
Source and licence
The historical source is the ADSB.lol globe_history daily archive. FlightTrove keeps source release, asset, checksum, parser and authority provenance so a production historical day can be traced to its input and transformation identity.
The historical derivative database, including FlightTrove-added contents in that database, is available under ODbL 1.0 without additional restrictions.
FlightTrove derivative database boundary
The ODbL offer covers historical route-pattern, spatial, hour-of-week, quality and provenance aggregates, and conservatively includes persistent historical features, scores, candidates, selections and outcomes derived from them. Independent FlightTrove account, billing, favourites, collection, notification and personal event databases remain separate.
T+24 forecasts
Displayed T+24 forecasts are Produced Works. Their underlying stored source-derived feature and candidate data are included in the derivative database offer; storing a score or rank alongside historical contents does not exclude those contents from ODbL.
Where historical evidence contributes to a public T+24 result, the app shows ADSB.lol and ODbL attribution together with access to the derivation method.
Machine-readable derivation method
FlightTrove publishes the derivation method, an exact algorithm and schema supplement, and the added coverage geometry free of charge and without authentication. Together these specify the daily historical processing and downstream feature, scoring, selection, snapshot and outcome transformations, including identifier and checksum generation.
